GLIDDEEE, from Lebanon, just released their debut single, “SUPERTASTEUR.” It is an energetic indie-punk song with angular guitar riffs and a driving bass line that holds the relentless drums together. Its distorted vocals and absurdist lyrics convey a chaotic but rebellious joy that is all reminiscent of the 90s punk era. Co-produced by Joy Moughanni at the locally known Tunefork Studios, the track captures right off the bat the musicians’ raw energy.
The lyrics were inspired by the singer’s eating habits and reflects on the absurdity of one’s ego. There’s a sense of urgency and defiance in every note, particularly the opening notes of the guitar riff and the layers of feedback that run throughout the track.
“We felt that this song is a great introduction to GLIDDEEE”, explains lead singer Marco, “it reflects our dynamics as a group and displays a sound that is uncommon to some people in Lebanon. Yet, there is now a small resurgence for punk/alternative music thanks to live initiatives such as Dajjeh, a monthly punk event, and venues like Zico House hosting more bands that are coming with fresher sounds.”
In a short period of time, GLIDDEEE made a name for themselves in the Lebanese alternative scene with their unpredictable stage antics, unique fusion of different styles-which are visible in each member’s contribution, and passion throughout their performances.
