Rising pop-rock star KOTA! has shared her new single, ‘Eyes Wide Open,’ as she also drops her self-titled debut album. With her uncanny ability to tap into raw emotion – and her knack for genre-hopping – she might well be the artist we need in 2025.
The song’s message is that life can’t be rewound so don’t wait for it to happen to you, YOU make it happen yourself!
The vocals are hauntingly beautiful and the melodic harmonies leading into the first full blast of the song fit perfectly. The instrumentals are consistent and very catchy and give off a slightly hard rock vibe in the post-chorus bridge. I’m not surprised at all that you turned the chairs on The Voice and this is a great track. I especially love the little extra vocal snippets that are peppered throughout. I think my favorite part are the gang “woah woah” vocals.
KOTA! announced herself to the wider world back in 2024, with a string of highly-charged singles, including ‘Dead Pretty,’ ‘Killin’ It’ and ‘Under My Spell.’ These songs offered a window into pop’s newest challenger – someone who could take everything from grunge to 80s synth-goth to futuristic pop, and fashion it into something new.
